Back in 1998 when I first went online with my homepage, ZDTV was also in it's infancy. Twice a week there was a program called "Internet Tonight" and on this show there was a segment called "Dash's Homepage Hall of Fame" and it featured somebody's personal website. Hey, I've got my own homepage now, I'll submit mine. I really didn't expect to get a response but a week or two later I received an email from Dash (cute touch :) saying "I think we have a winner", my page would be featured in an upcoming show, yipee, I finally made it, I'm going to be famous!

A couple of days later I received an email questionaire asking a liitle about me, what I thought about the Internet, what inspired me to create my own web page, etc. Then I was given an approximate week when my story would be aired. I was told that I would receive one more reminder a day before the air-date.

Bragging? Of course I was bragging, I was telling everybody I knew: I'm going to be on "Internet Tonight" and they would say what? You know, ZDTV and they would say "what's that?" Back then a lot of people didn't even have computers at home, let alone did they watch TV shows about them.

That's okay, I'll just make sure to have my VCR setup and ready to go so I can record it and share it that way. Finally the date came and I received the notice that they promised me. I was all set to go except, damn it, I had to work late that night. I wasn't happy about that at all, I wanted to watch it live, not on Memorex! Well at least I would have it on tape.

STUPID, STUPID ME! I forgot about the three hour time difference and of course TV networks assume that everyone lives on the East coast. Grrrrrrrrrrr!! One more chance though, it should be repeated three hours later, but not that night, that night the repeat showing of "Internet Tonight" was pre-empted by something. :(

So I had lost my 15 minutes of fame, all I have to show is a couple of emails lost on a hardrive in a computer that no longer works. Does this mean that I haven't yet cashed in my 15 minutes of fame and I still have it coming to me? I think so, so I'll just have to keep on trying.
